Obituary for Carl Eugene Henkel

Carl Eugene Henkel, 77, of Battle Creek, formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. He was born on June 16, 1937, the son of Erich Wilhelm Henkel and Ruth (Downs) Henkel.
Carl attended Purdue University and graduated from Illinois Champaign Urbana and University of Gottingen. He was a teacher in Germany where he taught second grade and later ran the Airport Shell Gas Station in Kalamazoo, Michigan until retiring.
Carl is survived by his Son: Marc Henkel of Oldenburg, Germany; Sister: Ursula Henkel of Ogden Dunes, IN; Former Wife: Karen Plades; Good Friends: Larry Lake of Ionia, MI and Rick Jakola of Portage, MI.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; his Daughter: Rydoon Henkel and Brother: Erich Henkel.
Carl was and avid Notre Dame Football fan, enjoyed watching television, playing poker and reading.
A private family service will be held.
