Obituary for Catharine Esther Keniston

Catharine 'Kay' Esther Keniston of Battle Creek, MI passed away Monday, September 29th, 2015. Kay was the youngest of four siblings, born February 25th, 1938 to Jesse and Warren Hartley. On September 3rd, 1955 she married James Larry Keniston. Kay was an active member of First Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday school, and was known to many as a beloved lunch lady for Harper Creek High School for many years. After her retirement, she continued to pursue her passions for cooking, baking, and grandmothering. These pursuits included travel, notably to the Upper Peninsula, Niagara Falls, and Hawaii; Quilt-making, Barbie-outfit-design and creation, and crochet; Adopting Labrador mixes Sugar, Peppy, and Lady; and playing highly competitive games of Aggravation, ‘Shove It’ (Phase 10), Uno, and Sorry (Not Sorry) with her many grandchildren.

Catharine is survived by her husband, James Larry Keniston; her daughters Theresa (Craig) Alexander and Connie (John) Harris, her son, James ‘Jim’ Keniston; her nine grandchildren, and her fourteen great-grandchildren. Catharine is preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Clark, and granddaughters Amber Alexander and Cassandra Clark. Visitation for Catharine will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service, Battle Creek, MI on Friday, October 2, 2015 with service at 2pm.
