Janice Kay Cross, 72, of Portage, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. She was born on August 18, 1945, the daughter of Oliver Erwin Oversmith and Marguerite Lucille (Pollock) Oversmith.
Janice graduated from Battle Creek Central with the Class of 1963.She worked at Allied Supermarkets for 16 years, Courier-Emery Overnight Freight for 9 years and EPI Printers for 5 years. She especially loved driving limos for the Kellogg Foundation. Janice was an active member of Maple United Methodist Church for 55+ years.
Jan is survived by her Granddaughter, Angel (Nick) Oberski; Grandson, Brookes Michael Osborne; Brother, Gary (Nancy) Oversmith; Special Friend, Kristi McFellin . She was preceded in death by her Father, Oliver Erwin Oversmith, Mother, Marguerite Lucille Oversmith, Late Husband, Roger C. Cross, Son, Mark Cross, Daughter, Jill Cross, Sister, Linda Gibbins, Grandmother, Grandma Mabel.
She was a proud mother of her two children and loved them dearly. In her younger days, Janice loved racing cars, and she was proud to tell you so. She loved reading, writing letters and watching the news. She was an animal lover, and had many animals over the years that she treated just like her children. She enjoyed volunteering her time to the community, and volunteered to build up her neighborhood and worked to make it safe. She volunteered at Life Span Hospice, to help people. Her main passion was working on campaigns for the Democratic party. Janice was a dedicated Michigan Wolverines fan. She loved watching Days of Our Lives and As the World Turns. She was the heart of her family and enjoyed making precious memories with her children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service will be held at the Maple United Methodist Church, 342 Capital Ave NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017, on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 starting at 11:00 am with the burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
