Jean Marciel McCray, 91, passed away September 26th, 2018 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility.

Jean was born in Albion Michigan on September 24,1927, the daughter of Floyd and Emma (Ott) Krenrick. She graduated from Washington Gardner high school in Albion Michigan in 1945. Soon after she moved to the Battle Creek area where she began her training to become a registered nurse. Jean trained and graduated from the Mercy College of Nursing of Detroit at the Leila Unit of the United States Cadet Corp from 1945 to 1948. She worked at Percy Jones Hospital in Battle Creek through the Sisters of Mercy of Leila Hospital from 1948 to 1952. After that she worked for Dr. Campbell, Dr. Powers and Dr. Stephenson, at the OBGYN clinic from 1953 to 1993. During five years of that time she held a second job at the VA hospital.

Jean was married to John B. McCray in 1948, they were married for 58 years. They had two children, John C. and Frances K.

Jean was an avid volunteer in the lives of her children, the medical profession and the community in which she lived. She received numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding service at such activities as the Burnham Brook Center, the Bedford Lions Club, the Leila Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Committee among many others. Jean also received recognition as the Medical Assistant of the year by the Calhoun County Medical Assistant Society.

She enjoyed travel, Tigers baseball, the Detroit Red Wings, reading, cooking for her family (or anyone else that came through the door), bingo and card playing, especially euchre. (which if there were a Euchre Hall of Fame she would have been an inductee).

Jean was a compassionate, loving mother, grandmother, true friend and a lifelong nurse who was devoted to the selfless service of others. She will be dearly missed by all who's lives she touched and her legacy will live on in those she leaves behind.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband John B., her son John C., her mother and father, sister Frances (Krenrick) Parent, brother Gerald Krenrick.

She is survived by her daughter Frances (McCray) Godfrey, six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
