Shelby Gean Word, 69, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born on November 15, 1945, the daughter of Odie Mack and Lenoria (Heard) Mack.
Shelby was a registered nurse in the Battle Creek Health System for over 40 years before retiring in 2009. She enjoyed caring for people and helping them.
Shelby is survived by her Children, Michael Hamilton and Michelle Hamilton; Grandchildren, Malik, Andres, Kalen, and Ahmir; Siblings, Leon Mack, Aline (Don) Stokes, Betty Wilson and special friends, Josie, Cindy and Ann. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Emmerin Jack Word; Brothers, Edgar Chandler and Odell Mack; Sisters Tiza Taylor and Marie Burt.
Shelby loved gardening, reading, and listening to audio books. She was a wonderful woman with a big heart. Shelby loved her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, 11:00 am.
Interment will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
