Obituary for Erma Jean McGinnis

Erma Jean McGinnis, 84, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 while doing what she loved "playing the piano". She was born on May 26, 1931, the daughter of William Hobbs Sr. and Carrie (Finley) Hobbs.
Erma was a 1949 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and was employed at Southwest Rehab Hospital for 33 years until retiring.
Erma is survived by her Sons: Jeffrey M. McGinnis of Battle Creek, MI, Kirk Anthony (Darlene) McGinnis of Atlanta, GA and Lowell E. McGinnis of Washington, DC; Grandchildren: Jeffrey "Jay" (Sarah) McGinnis, Anthony "Tony" McGinnis, Cory McGinnis, Lena McGinnis and Magen McGinnis; 9 Great Grandchildren; Sisters: Sarah Dyer of Battle Creek, MI and Willa Mae Johnson of Oakland, CA. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Former Spouse: Hirschell McGinnis; Brothers: Albert Hobbs & William Hobbs Jr.
Erma was an avid music lover of gospel music. She also enjoyed poetry, writing and arranging gospel music, playing the piano and loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had an avid passion for music and was involved in many area musical programs and activities. She was a faithful and devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she served as minister of music for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Chain Lake Missionary Baptist District Association, former member of the Michigan State Choir under the direction of late Rev. Charles Nicks and participated in the late Rev. James Cleveland Music Workshops.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Sunday August 23, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 636 W. Van Buren Street, on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Timothy Troxler officiating.
Interment will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
