Richard Russell  Newsom
Richard "Dick" Russell Newsom, 71, of Springfield, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born on November 3, 1944, the son of Harold Russell Newsum Sr. and Louise (Bradley) Thomas.
Rich attended Battle Creek Central High School. After school he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He began his race career in 1962.
Rich is survived by his Son, Scot Newsom of Springfield, MI; two Daughters, Kelly Chapin and Teresa Payne of Battle Creek, MI; two Sisters, Sharon Lewis of Manistee, MI, and Candy Goodson of Battle Creek, MI; four Brothers, David Flemming of Kalamazoo, MI, Harold Newsum, Jr. of Battle Creek, MI, Timothy Newsum of Battle Creek, MI, and Randy Newsum of Battle Creek, MI; 9 Grandchildren; 3 Great-Grandchildren; Pastor and Family Friend, Bobby Holley. He was preceded in death by his Father, Sister, Patricia Newsum, Brother, Larry Blackburn and Aunt Gertrude Goodale.
Rich was an avid race car driver. He had a passion for racing and building cars. Rich was a championship driver at the Galesburg and Butler Speedway for many years. He loved to watch ice hockey and football. His favorite teams were the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks. He was a family man who loved to spend time with his kids and grandkids. Rich was also an avid Harley Davidson rider. He owned a Harley leather shop when he was down in Florida. He enjoyed doing Poker Runs and Biker rally's for children's charities like Toys for Tots. Rich was a wonderful man with a big heart who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Preparations are being made for a wake at a later date. Please contact the family for further information.
