Obituary for Gerald Edwin Johnson

Gerald Edwin Johnson
Gerald Edwin Johnson, 96, of Springfield, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at his home. He was born on May 2, 1919, the son of Earl E. Johnson and Dorothy Edna (Mueller) Johnson.
Gerald graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. He repaired type writers after high school and stayed in Ft. Custer after being drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. Prior to being deployed to London he worked as a machinist at Eaton Corp. where he returned to work until his retirement after the war.
Jerry is survived by his three Daughters, Marilyn Y. Livers, Rachel A. Johnson, and Jean E. (Len) Spano; three grandchildren, Deborah Y. (Jason) Lubken, Timothy J. (Corinne) Livers, and Melody H. (Dennis) Manwell; four great-grandchildren, Brianna H. Manwell, Jonathan L. Manwell, Seth M. Manwell, and Hadley G. Livers. He was preceded in death by his Parents, and his loving Wife, Erna E. Johnson.
Jerry was a huge Detroit Tigers fan, he would call them the tiger bums when they weren't playing to capacity. He also enjoyed fishing and camping in his younger days. Jerry loved to travel just for the sake of traveling, which drove his wife a little crazy. He was a big part of the Springfield Assembly of God Church which he helped to build. He was very active in the Four Fold Gospel Church as a Sunday school teacher, and he helped out with the youth group prior to beginning Springfield Assembly of God. He was the church treasurer and a Deacon as well as a Sunday school teacher while his wife played the organ. Jerry loved the Lord and was always eager to spread the word and talk to people about it. Up until snow fell, Jerry would walk a total of 10 blocks with his walker, talking to his neighbors and waving at his friends.
Interment will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to: Springfield Assembly of God.
