Marye E Shelton, 78, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family . She was born on May 18, 1937, the daughter of Matthew Shelton and Mary (Millett) Shelton.
Marye was a service officer of American Legion Post 29.
Miss Marye is survived by her five daughters, Vivian J (Willie) White of Jackson, MS, Rhonda S (Brian) McKinley of Battle Creek, MI, LaRoyce N (Melvin) Fant of Battle Creek, MI, Huberta L (Anthony ) Shelton-Lewis of Detroit, MI, Charleeta T (Conrad) Clark of Battle Creek, MI; two sons, Charles M (Lori) Shelton of Battle Creek, MI, James W (Fiancee Nakessa) Shelton of Battle Creek, MI; Goddaughter, Markisha Young of Battle Creek, MI; and an abundant amount of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Father, Matthew Shelton, Mother, Mary Shelton, sisters, Edna McGee, Delores Lewis and brother, Sylvester Shelton.
Marye was awarded the Suggestion and Concern Award from the Army (WAC). She was a recipient of the Training Award from the Veterans Administration. She received the Good Conduct Medal and the Medal of Honor from the Army. Miss Marye retired from the veterans administration after 12 years of service. Marye was an avid crocheter and her entire world revolved around her children. She was an exceptional mother to her children and to her extended family. She was a very hard worker and excellent provider for her children a real "Pillar-of-Strength" with a Heart of gold. Everybody called her "Miss Marye". She was in the US Army active duty 2 years and reserve for 4 years..
