Obituary for Robert Joseph Mowrer

Robert (Bob) Joseph Mowrer, 74, of Bellevue, Michigan, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his home with his wife and family. Robert was born March 11, 1942 in Dover, Ohio. He was the son of William and Lucille (Capozella) Mowrer. In addition to his parents he is proceeded in death by his wife Sharon (Kleeman) Mowrer, and sister Mary Lou Fish.
Bob attended school at St. Joseph Catholic High School in Dover, Ohio where he played football and basketball and also enjoyed science and was proud of his awards. After high school he joined the U.S Air Force. He was stationed in the U.P. of Michigan at Kincheloe Air Force Base. It was in the U.P. where he met his wife Sharon. They resided there and raised their children. This is when he became an avid University of Michigan fan.
Bob loved to read and through reading he became a self-taught tradesman in the logging business, as a carpenter, woodsman and a auto-body perfectionist. Bob was also an avid hunter, fisherman and all around outdoors man. Bob was passionate about history especially the history of the Civil War and Michigan.
His pride and joy came out when he completely restored his 1966 custom cab red Chevy truck named "Big Red". He and his "Big Red" won many awards and was well known in the region at car shows and charity events. Bob was a longtime member of Drifters and Sunset Cruiser Car Club.
Robert was a wonderful provider and family man. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Sherry (McGowen) Mowrer, daughters Angella (Michael Tallarico) Bussler of Charlotte and Lori (Garth) Marteeny of Durango Co., Son, Dennis (Kathy) Knecht Mowrer Step-children, David LaClair, Robert (Brenda) Mather and Cindy (Chris) Curtis, Becky (Chuck) Emery, Michelle (Tom) Colletta. Sisters, Anita (Mike) Gribble-Cummings of Basset, VA and Nancy Mowrer-Ross of Holiday, Florida. Brothers, William (Mary) Mowrer or Bellevue and James (Lucille) Mowrer of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, exchange students from throughout the world, friends and loved ones.
The family wishes to express a special thank you for the kindness shown to Bob by the A-team of Andy, April, Amanda, Angela and Jack from Oaklawn Hospice.
A memorial service for Robert will be held Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Bellevue First Baptist Church with interment at Bellevue Cemetery and a memorial luncheon to follow. Memorial contributions can be made to Oaklawn Hospice in memory of Robert.
